I'm an Emmy Nominated documentary film director whose work centers human connection, community storytelling and joy.
When I was a little girl growing up on the South-Side of Chicago, I was curious about everything. I asked a lot of questions. Much to the annoyance of the adults in my life.
I liked studying, dismantling objects to see how they worked. Still do. I've been playing with cameras most of my life. The kind I’d save to buy at a thrift store and fix up. I went to Chicago Public Schools, I worked my way through college at UIC. The arts, my lifeline, in a city that forged me. The diverse communities I had the privilege of growing up in, changed my life. I quickly learned the stories told about where I came from with words like: “dangerous, scary, bad,” but if the world is watching us in Chicago, I want my films to show them the truth of who we are. Every person I work with in my films, reminds me of the kids I grew up with: making the best of every opportunity with passion, joy and grit. Many of whom are back at it, as adults: teaching, organizing, leading the communities we came from. Not unlike myself, after gaining experience in the film industry, I opened my own business and got to work. Now I partner with foundations, non-profits, small businesses and community groups to tell stories with purpose and agency.
