Melissa (Martens) Fox is a Chicago based Writer, Director, filmmaker and photographer. A graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago. With a BFA in Film/Photography and a minor in Art History, Melissa brings her classical arts training to the table every time she directs. With years of on the job experience and multiple awards as a director, DP and Editor for clients under her belt and work featured in international film festivals, melissa creates evocative work that captures the quintessence of the human spirit.

I grew up on the South-Side of Chicago. While I love my city, I was exposed to it's raw underbelly at a very young age. This keeps me grounded and grateful. I am still sorting through my role as an artist, a woman, a leader and an entrepreneur. I feel the tension of my blue-collar roots, my feminist views, my social justice spirit and my artist life style on a daily basis. All themes that pop up in my work.

I am a diversified community storyteller. I use filmmaking, writing, photography, voice over and watercolor as my medium. As a cultural biographer or a business ethnographer; I tell people’s stories. Whether that be the story of your life, your business, brand or non-profit.

To that end, my work in both not-for-profit and for-profit companies has a proven history of reaching and motivating behavior change in audiences as diverse as the general public. My experience is vast and takes me from producing and directing social-issue and arts & culture documentaries to content-centric marketing campaigns and corporate filmmaking. I have built and managed diverse creative teams from the ground up in both the motion picture industry as well as in writing, directing, photography, marketing and art direction.

The world loves being able to put people into one simple title. For me, it's not so simple. My work in one area feeds my work in another. So while I may be managing a workflow one day and directing a film the next, to me it's all along the same goal of finding meaningful work that feeds my soul.
